Koji Kamoji, born in 1935 in Tokyo, is considered one of the most influential contemporary artists in Poland. His cultural roots lie in both his Japanese heritage and since the nineteen-sixties in the Polish avant-garde. As a member of the group of artists surrounding the legendary Foksal Gallery in Warsaw, which includes artists such as Edward Krasinski, Natalia L. L., Stanislaw Drozdz and Roman Opalka, he was part of the avant-garde scene in Poland, which asserted itself throughout the decades of socialist dictatorship.
Koji Kamoji’s work revolves around issues of identity in relation to time and place, the relationship between man and nature, and the inner being within outer existence. His work is the result of internal focus, where playfulness and meditation, law and coincidence merge as vehicles for expression. This book provides for the first time in Germany a presentation of the whole spectrum of the work of this significant artist.
